Under 14 BYPL Wrap Up & Meet & Greet Notice

The U14 BYPL team returned to action this weekend with resumption of the competition. Only 5 matches to go as they attempt to clinch the title. First up ... UQFC at home. A tightly fought first half saw Caboolture have more of the possession but struggle to break through a well organised UQ defence. Pinky missed a good chance to put the home side ahead after the UQ keeper fumbled a cross. Caboolture pressed high but were opened up at the back by a UQ counter attack who took the lead after a driving run into the box resulted with an angled shot past a full stretched James Murray in goal. The half ended with UQ one goal to the good despite Caboolture’s attempts to equalise. The second half began as the first half ended with Caboolture in control of the early exchanges but failing to hit the target with Riley Rapmund going close. Caboolture piled on the pressure with no luck of the bounce in and around the box. UQ then broke down the right evading the offside trap and scored with a cross come shot into the far corner leaving the Caboolture keeper and defence with no chance. At 2-0 Caboolture had a mountain to climb. UQFC pulled men back behind the ball and defended their lead resolutely. However, Caboolture’s never to be outdone attitude shone through when quick build up play allowed Charlie Hosking to pull a goal back with a beautiful strike into the top corner from outside the box. The push to equalise was on, but the clock was ticking. UQ’s defence held strong. Chances went begging and an Ashton Petersen free kick was charged down. With seconds on the clock, step up Lucas Rendell. The centre back received the ball from Jayden Vincent on the half way line, dribbled into the centre circle and following shouts of ‘shoot’ from his teammates, launched a shot towards the goal. For what seemed an eternity the ball flew goalward and incredibly sailed over the keeper into the roof of the net to break UQ’s hearts and send Caboolture’s players, coaches and supporters crazy ! That was Lucas’s first goal in Caboolture colours. The final whistle blew after the restart making the final score 2-2. What a goal, what a game, what a team. Still unbeaten, Caboolture take on Tarragindi this Sunday in the next instalment of their title challenge.
