U14 BYPL Caboolture 4-2 Olympic

The U14 BYPL squad headed south to Goodwin Park to face Olympic FC this week in their final game before the competition is split. Caboolture were  looking to maintain their season long 100% win record, while Olympic could make the top 6 with a win themselves.

Caboolture were well in control through the early stages of the first half and took the lead when Charlie Hosking cut inside from the left and shot into the far corner of the goal from just inside the penalty area. Olympic we’re well organised and started to feel their way back into the match resulting in them equalising to make the score 1-1. A rejuvenated Olympic took the lead before half time catching Caboolture napping at the back. Following a tense period of play the half time whistle blew with Olympic leading 2-1.

Caboolture reverted to using a back four rather than 3 at the back for the second half. Again Caboolture started the half strongly, maintaining possession and taking control in midfield. A surging run from his own half by Ashton Petersen allowed him cross the ball into the box for Josh Zealey to slot the ball in past the keeper. With their tales up Caboolture went in search of the lead. Continued pressure and good build up play resulted in a number of goal scoring opportunities, but it was Josh Zealey who broke the deadlock with a strong determined run into the box and a shot across the keeper into the far corner.

Olympic continued to play their passing game and threatened the Caboolture goal on several occasions without success. Caboolture’s quick passing through the midfield and down the left hand side culminated in a cross for Dominic Druce to score with less than five minutes left of the match. The final whistle blew with Caboolture running out 4-2 winners. This was a great team effort that highlighted just how resilient this team can be and that when needed they can dig deep and come out on top. The squad have a bye next week before the concluding matches against the other ‘top six’ teams.
